John BROWN, born 9 Jul 1809 Castletownshend Co. Cork, son of James Brown & Elizabeth ....? He joined the coastguard & was transferred to Hampshire where he married Mary FERGUS, born Belmullet Co Mayo daughter of James (also a coastguard who died in Devon) & Mary FERGUS. Anyone related to these BROWNs?

You can learn more about it HERE and it might be another avenue to consider so that your ancestor's details can be seen by others. Baptism records for Belmullet do not begin until 1841 so too late for Mary to be recorded.
You could also contact the National Archives to see if they can provide anything further on the Coast guard angle.
