Hi, I am trying to find out where in Ireland my Great-grandfather John Connelly came from. He was born between 1858-1860 in Ireland. His marriage record in Quincy, MA. says his father's name is Michael & his mother is Bridget. His death certificate also in Quincy MA in 1901 says parents unknown. There is also a James living in Quincy MA around the same time & his death certificate says his father is Michael & his mother is Bridget Callahan. I'm assuming they are brothers?
I did find children of Michael & Bridget Callahan born in Ballysodare. There is a Michael, Patrick, Bridget, Catherine & Beesey but no John or James. So this could be different parents than John & James,
Any help and guidance would be appreciated! Thanks

Diane:
I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and saw the Ballysodare records you mentioned where the father was Michael Connelly and the mother Bridget Callaghan. The Ballysodare RC baptismal records have a gap between August 1853 and February 1858. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0120
I'm wondering if John and James were born in the gap period and there for their records would not be available?
I also did not find a marriage record but Ballysodare marriage records start in 1858.
As you likely know, civil registration for births and RC marriages did not start until 1864.

Thank you Roger. I was wondering if I was on the right track with my detective work! There were quite a few Connellys living in Quincy MA in the late 1800's that were born in Ireland and worked in the quarries. I am assuming they were related somehow. There was a Micheal & Jeremiah who's parents were Jeremiah & Mary Donovan, and Thomas who's parents were John & Mary McCarthy. I was not able to find birth records for them either, although they were all born during the gap period in Ballysodare
