    Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Have you tried looking for more information in Church records? Church of Ireland parish registers for the period up to 1870-are public records. Registers are available for about one third of the parishes, however many were destroyed in the Public Records Office in Dublin in 1922. Most are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. A list of all surviving registers is available in the National Archives. For more information check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/

You could also try searching for records at Family Search. This is a huge database of genealogical records so you may be lucky and find something here: www.familysearch.org

Also, both Catholic and Church of Ireland records from the pre 1900 period are currently being uploaded to www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html free of charge. However, as this is an on-going project not all records are available yet.

I hope that this is helpful. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

  • You have probably checked the 1901 for Lawlor's? and maybe Watters?, starting with the nearest and outward, looking for a (child?) John that matches the grooms age?

City directories through the era? Gaining his occupation from census or directory -- leading to other trade records?

Perhaps a marriage announcement in the newspaper?

As per the above message, have you checked the children in the parish resgiters?

Queens county you could start with a surname distribution search?

Will be nice to hear what record types you find, or if you need any assistance.

  • Thank you for your reply and suggestions.  John Lawlor was listed as an ironmongery porter in 1911, so probably not listed in a Trade Directory  Have searched through newspapers and found no evidence of any BDM notices etc  Emmigration lists looked at and still a possibility although no sucess so far!  I live too far away (Australia) to search Parish registers that are not available on line (although hopeful of making a trip to Ireland in 2014)  and have not found any evidence of children in the records that I have searched.  Obtaining their birth certs would not be of any use to me unless I located other chn with unusual names that might be obvious in further searches including the 1939 electoral Rolls etc  Think I'm stumped for the moment!
