Hi Group,
This is my first post to this group. If there is anyone who can help me I'd be most appreciative.
My Great Grandfather was John McLean who came to Victoria Australia in abt 1870 and married here in 1871.On his marriage certificate it stated he was born in Glasgow and his parents were John McLean and Ann Martin.I have never been able to find his birth or his parents marriage until yesterday I got onto Scotlands People and did find his birth in 1839 to parents John and Ann.Looking further I couldn't find a marriage but I was watching a documentary a few weeks ago on the McLean Clan and I remembered them saying that after the Jacobite uprising the McLean ancestral home of Duart was taken and the McLeans had no where to call their home so many went to France and others to Ireland before returning to Scotland after Duart was bought back in the early 1900s.Because of this information I did a search in Ireland for a marriage and found a marriage in 1834 in Dublin for John McLean and Ann Martin. If this is my ancestors it appears they may have gone back to Scotland before 1839 when John was born in Glasgow.I am trying to find any other children born to this couple between 1834 and 1838 in Ireland.I can find no births in Scotland or even a census record yet and wonder if anyone on the group may be able to help me look for any children born in this time frame in Ireland or direct me to where to look.I am on Ancestry but nothing shows up. John McLean Snr was a printer and I wonder if there is anywhere that might tell me if he worked in this field in Ireland .Any help or suggestion would be great.
