I would like to learn more about my ancestor, John Price.  According to Griffith's Valuation he lived in Abbeyland Little in Clonfert.  He died in Clonfert in 1870, aged 67.  His widow Mary (possibly nee Bradly) died in Banagher in 1882.  Their son (also John Price) lived in Banagher at that time.

John Price Sr. is thought to have immigrated from Wales before 1835.  I am curious as to why he would have moved to Clonfert.  Do any records exist of the Butson estate? Or any other records that I could search to learn more about the family in Clonfert.

His children were members of the Church of Ireland but I am not sure what his religion was.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

The Price family did indeed live in the townland of Abbeyland Little in Clonfert. Some of the family moved across the River Shannon to Shannonbridge in Co Offaly from Clonfert where the late Mr Leslie Price had a small blacksmith and engineering business.   By the way a small road exists here in Clonfert known to this day as Prices Road. Their house was on the edge of that road. While I do not know why they came to Clonfert from Wales it would be interesting to know if they ever had a connection with horses -perhaps as grooms or some such thing. The majority of families that lived in Abbeyland Little were Protestant and were retained by the Butson landlords. Nearly all of those families moved out of the area by the early 20th century. I spoke to a person I know in Shannonbridge who is invoved in heritage matters and he has contacted the late Leslie Prices' daughter. She has a considerable amount done on the Price family history.Paula
