I am trying to find out where abouts my great grandparents came from in County Cork. John Ryan was born in 1829 and Bridget Desmond was born in 1834. They went to India and my grandfather was born there in 1867 They emigrated from Queenstown for Bluff, New Zealand in 1874.

  • Denis: I searched two different sites one subscription one free with no success but then I tried another subscription site (FindMyPast.ie) and located the marriage record. John and Bridget were married on May 13 1859 at St. Mary's RC parish in Cork city. I also found a baptismal record in the same parish for a Bridget Desmond February 17 1836 father Richard Desmond mother Anastasia Leary. I know you show 1834 for her year of birth so I would treat the record I found as a lead. Roger McDonnell

  • A daughter was born to John Ryan and Bridget Desmond in 1874. They were living in Fair Lane in Cork City at the time.
