Looking for information on John Sheehan. I was told he was the brother of Johanna Sheehan.  The parents were listed as Timothy Sheehan and Johanna Driscoll on Johanna's death certificate and on Bridgit's baptismal record.

Info on parents:  Timothy Sheehan and Johanna Driscoll married 9 Feb 1813 in Blarney, Ireland, Parish Variants Blarney and White Church, Garrocline, Garrocloyne, Garrycline, Garryclone, Garrycloyne, White Church and Garryclone, Whitechurch, Whitechurch and Garrocline.  Diocese Cloyne. (Ancestry.com)

Sisters are both connected to Timothy Sheehan and Johanna Driscoll. I do not know if there are more siblings.

Bridget Sheehan: Birth 1834 , Bap. 2 Feb 1834 in Glanmire Cork,Ireland Diocese Cork and Ross

I know Johanna and John both immigrated to America. They lived eventually in Lorberry and Tremont, Pennsylvania.

John Sheehan married my gg grandmother Honora Grant. He died young. They had 3 children, Timothy, Thomas and Bridgit. She later married my gg grandfather William Murphy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located baptismal records in Blarney for a Mary in 1822 and a Julia in 1830. I would have expected to see other records. You may want to scan the Blarney register for other baptismal records https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0020  Glanmire is a neighboring RC parish to Blarney but in the Diocese of Cork and Ross. Records for that diocese are on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie but for some reason the Glanmire records do not appear to be included. I note that you found Bridget's record in 1834. Possibly you can find others on the parish register   https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0053

  • Thank you so much.  I am amazed how quickly you all respond.  I am deeply grateful. I will definitely check those sites. I had found a Julia Sheehan in Lorberry, PA but was not sure if she connected to the family.  I am beginning to think John's entire family may have come to America.  This certainly gives me more people to research to find more about John.  Thank you again and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We have an XO Chronicles site where you can add John's story (or any family member) and possibly someone will see a connection  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

    Have you considered DNA testing?

    Happy St. Patricks Day!

  • Hi Roger,

I did DNA testing with Ancestry.com.  It verified my Irish family was concentrated in these areas including Cork, Kilkenny and Waterford. I have not yet connected with any individuals yet. Many of those who test do not have family trees on Ancestry..

My gg grandfather served in the Civil War and there were notes from a pension review held in the USA National Archives that provided some information.  Newspapers.com provided some local news clippings mentioning siblings to research. However, you site has been so valuable in my research process and I can not thank you all enough.  John Sheehan has been a challenge but hopefully I will find him in one of the registers. I plan on adding them to the XO Chronicles. This is really a great website! Again, thank you!

Although Ancestry DNA has the largest data base of participants by far, I find that many of my matches never respond to my messages. There is a volunteer run site called Genesis Gedmatch www.genesis.gedmatch.com  where you can load your Ancestry DNA data and see matches with people who tested with other companies and also loaded their data to Genesis Gedmatch.
