my great great grandparents William Young and Mary Ann Lockard Young emigrated to NYC about 1857-58. They had a son John who was born about 1856-57 and whom they left in Ireland. Can anybody help me find out what happened to him? They were married in 1855 in Carnteen Tyrone. Any help about the Young or Lockard families would be appreciated

  • You can view the original marriage certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church which should be on the certificate (unless it was a Registry Office marriage). That church may be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings.

So if you post a copy of the certificate here, or transcribe the key information ie townlands (addresses), occupations, fathers names and occupations, we’ll try to tell you a bit more about the couple.
