My Patrick Meade of Limerick was a Tailor, and I have since found a Michael Meade with a son Richard Meade in Co.Cork, both Tailors and I wondered just how many other Meade familys have a Tailor in their line.  Is it a common occupation for people in the 1850 -1910 era?  Just wondering.

  • Hi there:

You had a previous query which one of our local volunteers is going to look after for you and reply early next week.

As to the query about tailors, many of these skilled trades did tend to run in families, and it is an interesting point that you bring up.  If you have access to FindMyPast, they have a very good section on trade directories and it is definitely worth a look to see what other Meade Tailors existed.

You might also check out the website:  www.swilson.info which is run by one of our volunteers.  His website has a list of trade directories which you may also find interesting to view.

Many thanks for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out and your great question!

    All the best
