Justus Rutherford born in Manorhamilton in 1775

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a number of Rutherford baptismal records at the Cloonclare Church of Ireland parish. There are three records where the father Is John Rutherford and the mother Margaret or Margery.  Mary baptized September 20 1829, Elizabeth September 2 1832 and James December 26 1833. All three records showed Glanboy as the residence.

I note that you show Justus as the father's name but there are no Rutherford baptismal records with father as Justus. I also note that the family left in 1832and the family above had a child in 1833.

What were the names of his children?

Thank you Roger, Justus did have a daughter Mary born in April, 1829 but the other children do not fit into his family.  I do have a document with Justus signature in Ontario in 1832.  I am researching a number of Irish settler families here in the north half of Simcoe County for a local museum and at least 3 are Rutheford men born in Ireland before 1800.  Please let me know if you need help finding Ontario records.

Allan (c1800-), Justus' 1st wife was Deborah Eccles.

Ann (1818-1822)

Remainder of children immigrated.

Elizabeth (1820-1906)  

Ann (1823-1854)

Adam (1824-1832)

Edward (1827-1876)

Mary (1829-1896)

William (1831-1912)

I have found 3 family histories for Justus' family here but there are discrepancies between them and no sources.  I have recently found some documents but little information prior to 1832.

I went back to Roots Ireland and found five of the baptismal records for the children you listed. The earlier records showed a location of Manorhamilton but the last couple showed Gortinar which is a townland in Killasnet civil parish which borders Cloonclare.

If you ever want to do a deep dive into Rutherfords of Cloonclare Church of Ireland parish there are at least 40 Rutherford baptisms from 1815-1831 on Roots Ireland.

Hi Fred,

I see you have Justus as Allan Rutherford's fourth son and Allan his father being born in 1752 and Elizabeth his mother born in 1756. For Justus, born in 1775, to be the fourth son, Elizabeth must have started her family very early. Do you have any records that show Allan and Elizabeth's birth dates or that Justus was the fourth son? I have seen elsewhere that there was also a fifth son name unknown. I wondered if you or anyone had a record of him?

Hi Andrew,

I am researching the Rutherford family for the Orillia Museum of Art and History.  They were early settlers in our area.  My sources did not record their sources.  

Lidstone, Baker, Rutherford Family Tree, pages 26 and 27, OMAH Family History Files.  There was no author recorded and some corrections were hand written in the book.

Mary Garbutt, Medonte, a Township Remembered, The Oro-Medonte History Committee, 2003, pages 503-505.

There were discrepancies between these sources and I have found familysearch to be prone to errors.  We cannot connect all of the Rutherford families here to a single family tree and have no sources from Ireland or Scotland.
