Hello,
We are planning a trip to the Nenagh/Dromineer area in early January (2019) and would like to visit the place in Castlesheela from where our ancestors emigrated to the U.S. in the 1850's, find and visit the cemetery where our Kelly ancestors are buried, and learn whether there are living relatives in the area. We're not sure any of this is possible, but if there is someone who guides these types of visits we'd appreciate his or her contact information. I have lots of genealogical information to share with hopes of further discoveries.
Thank you,
Shelley

Hi,
Have you any Christian names of the Kelly people?
There is One Kelly in 1823 in Monsea in the townland of Garranfadda, his name is Martin.
In 1850's there are John, Denis and James in the area, these are listed in Griffiths Valuation. My Great Grandparents were from the area and are buried in Killoderrian.
This is on the same road (R495) as Monsea, through Puckane and take a small lane, it is sign posted to the Old Church and Graveyard.
There are little Graveyards/Burial grounds in the area from Nenagh up to Borrisokane. They could be burried in any one of these.Monsea Map.

Hi Margot,
Thank you for posting. Our Kelly ancestors are as follows:
Michael Kelly, b. 1796 in Nenagh parish to parents Denis Kelly and Mary Hogan
Michael married Ellen (Eleanor) Flinn (b. around 1801) and by 1834 (likely earlier) they are living in Castlesheela, Dromineer, Monsea RC parish.
I know of 8 children:
- John A. Kelly, b. around 1831 (no baptism record found)
- Margaret, b. around 1833 (no baptism record found)
- Winifred, b. 1834
- Catherine, b. 1836 (died 1844)
- Martin, b. 1838 (died 1840)
- John, b. 1843
- Mary, b. 1844
- Michael, b. 1846
They emigrated to Lima, New York, USA around 1852.
They appear on the Griffiths Valuation, which I will try to attach here.

Dear Shelly:
Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board. We have a very active volunteer with great local knowledge in that area and I have copied your post to her. She will be in contact with you in the next week or two and you might be able to arrange to meet with her during your trip.
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Hi Shelly, thanks for the names etc.
Have you used
https://registers.nli.ieYou will see the Ireland map. The next Parish to Monsea is Terryglass, I have checked for the births and sorry they are not listed.
The next is Nenagh, from 1792. a bit hard on the old eyes, so be careful.
When you are in Ireland, sat nav. in cars, give the townland names, so it's a bit easier now.
In the 1901 Census I noticed Kelly people in Monsea in a townland called Annaghbeg, their neighbours were my Great grandparents.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/this info on the census tell you the list of house numbers
House and Building Return (Form B1)
I hope this helps.

Hi Shelley,
I hope that I will be able to help- I’m a volunteer for Ireland Reaching out living in the parish of Monsea. I will be delighted to meet up with you in early January and guide you around the area. It will take me a couple of weeks to find out more information about which Kellys you are related to- If you want to send me any relevant information to monsea@irelandxo.com it would be of great help
All the best, Lulu
