Hello, thank you in advance for taking the time to have a look at my story. My 4G Grandmother, Bridget Kennedy married my 4G Grandfather, John Nolan (Joannes Nowlan) on 1 March 1808 in Newport, Tipperary. (pg 26 of the Parish register, NLi source). The witnesses were Andrew Kennedy and Michael Bourke. I have many DNA matches that have Long Andrew Kennedy in their tree, I am not sure if this is a Red Herring for me or whether, I too descend from him. I do not know the parents of either Bridget Kennedy or John Nolan. However their son, Thomas b. abt 1814 (no baptism record found to prove this) married Margaret Leary (b. 1815) on 12 Feb 1839 in Newport Parish, at the time they were both from Tour (potentially Toorataggart). The witnesses were John McK? and Ellen Ryan (pg 240 of Parish register 1830-1847, Ancestry source). Thomas and Margaret had a son John b. 1839 whilst they were living in Tour, the sponsor for his baptism was Judy Nolan (pg. 95 of Parish Register 1830-1847) he sadly died, but in 1840 they had another son, also named John, whilst they were living in Morough???? the sponsors for this baptism were Michael Leary and Owny??? Kennedy (pg 111 of Parish register 1830-1847). Sadly this John appears to have died too, in 1841 Thomas and Margaret left Ireland to head to Port Phillip Bay, in Victoria, Australia. Out of interest Margaret Leary was born in 1815 in Ballyhourigan, Tipperary to Daniel Leary and Anne Molony. I am not sure if Thomas and Margaret adhered to the traditional naming patterns but their children, in order, were John, John, Patrick (not sure where that name comes from), Daniel, Bridget (1846-1846), Anne, Margaret (my 3G Grandmother), John (3rd time lucky), Thomas, Bridget, Mary and Willliam. I have a feeling I may have a few kissing cousins here, because my 4G Grandfather (William O'Brien) aslo comes from Ballyhourigan and married a Bridget Ryan from Gotoon, Limerick but that's another story. What I am trying to do is to place the Kennedy (Andrew and Owny?) sponsors connection to Bridget Kennedy, place Judy Nolan's relationship to Thomas Nolan and Michael Leary's relationship to Margaret Leary, if this is even possible. I do not know the parents of Bridget Kennedy or John Nowlan Snr, The trees I have seen online for Long Andrew Kennedy seem to suggest thier is a generation missing in them, some have his wife Margaret Cormick still having children at the age of 56.. I guess possible, but? With the DNA connection I have and the fact that the families seems to have come from the Keeper Hill area also I do wonder if I am connected to Long Andrew also. I am sorry for the long post but I didn't want anyone going over ground I have already looked at, I am sure there must be other sources that I haven't used. Thank you for reading this.

They have a gathering in Rear Cross every July, it has been cancelled this year because of The Corona Virus.
They send out Newsletters, would you like me to get Newsletters sent to you.
Best of luck with your research, let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you Christina, I did see that Brian Kennedy had written several books, I am just notl sure which one would be the best for my family research. I would appreciate it if you could put me on the Newsletter distribution list. Kind Regards Diane

Hi Diane,
I am related to you through the Nolan's, over the last few years I have been putting together a book on the Nolan's and I have done a bit of research into the Kennedy line of the family, I dont have any records but I do think there is a connection through Bridget Kennedy to Long Andrew Kenndy, a lot of the facts between the two families seem to match up. Of interest was the family of Long Andrew's son, Andrew Jnr, (Born 1775) who also seemed to also live around Toor and Morough/Morogh/Mohorough/Moheragh areas. Michael Leary is Margaret Nolan's brother, I have a baptism record to confirm this, I also think he may have ended up in Australia. And I think that Judy was most likely a sister to Thomas Nolan, but I don't have anything to prove this. I also think that Tom had a brother called Daniel, born c.1820, who also went to Australia, there is a Daniel Nolan who died in a pub in Northern Victoria in 1871, from what I have read he lived in his inquest records he was from the Garvoc area and his body was taken back to Warrnambool and buried in a paupers grave there, I haven't proven it in the records yet, but I think that it is likely that he is Tom Nolan's brother. Cheers, Jarrod. -
Hi Jarrod, great to hear from you, I believe you are a DNA match with my sister and that we connect via my 3G Grandmother, Margaret and her brother, John Nolan. I do have Michael Leary in my tree but hadn't made the connection to the sponsor at the baptism. Have you joined the Gedmatch projects for 'Kennedys in Tipperary and Limerick', the O'Leary Clan, Nolan Surname and the Newport, Tipperary project. All projects also have facebook groups where members share matches and trees. I have a Daniel Nolan's death in 1871 in Tallangatta, aged 25 but I put him down as the son of Thomas and Margaret but that could be wrong. I did find a Michael Leary who died in Kyneton in 1864, I wonder if this is Margaret Nolan's brother. I am going to do some browsing on Judy and Daniel Nolan. I am very much interested in your research and hope to stay in touch. Regards Diane..
