Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would have heard about the Kennedys who would have been living in Shinrone, Roscrea, during the 1800's?
In 1868, Elizabeth Kennedy Rankin, married James Kennedy. In 1881, they had a son, James A Kennedy.

I have written before about my own family, The McKees, who would have been living in Shinrone. In 1919, my great aunt, Amy Margaret McKee married the mentioned, James A Kennedy in West Springfield, MA, USA. That was where James was living. My aunt, was residing in NY. Unfortunately, 5 yrs later he died and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield MA.

It suggests to me that the families knew each other, as it does seem a coincidence that two people from Shinrone would meet. I do know that Amy's aunt - whom Amy stayed with in NY- was from Shinrone and might have introduced them: Elizabeth Mooney, nee McKee, married Edward Mooney, NY 1881.

Amy remarried in 1931c to an American, John Warren Fales who was also from Springfield MA. She died in Springfield 1956.

If any of James's relations are still living in Roscrea, I would love to hear from them, or anyone who might have heard of them.

John

this person would appear to be the main pointer to McKee's of Shinrone . .

  • Hi, this is the marriage
    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
I did see this..... an Alice Kennedy
    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…
She passes on 16 days later
    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/d3f7…

I could find any of the children in the 1901 and 1911 census that were listed, they say 10 children and 7 still living.
Then I twigged maybe why ......................  I went to familysearch.org and saw why...............listed as BLANK as the Christian name.
Back to the Ireland site and search unknown and saw these.............

You will have to try and match the years of birth to the info in the census.
    James' death

    Can't see Elizabeths death.
    Hope this helps

  • Eamonn & Margot,
Thanks once again for all the hard work you have done. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately Margot, those records you sent didn't come out. If it is possible, it would be great to see them. I suspect Elizabeth Kennedy nee Rankin, might be buried in Glasgow. That was where she was born - according to the 1911 Census.

Interesting, that my great uncle was still in Ireland, 1919. i suspect some commnunication went on between the families. (McKees & Kennedys)

With so many projects, you probably won't remember Margot, but It was great that you introduced me to my 3rd cousin once removed, Suzanne Benninger. It was Suzanne who uncovered all that American info on the Kennedys.

    Once again,
    Many thanks (to you both)
    J
