I would like to connect with or find information about the following family which lived in Dublin late 1800s.  John and Mary [Margaret] Kiernan/Kearns KEOGH.  I have the baptismal records for most of the children, but little other information. My grandfather John and his brother Nicholas came to the US.  On the census, the elder John says he came from Cavan.

  • Martin,  I have not encountered an Alice in my family, nor a Roe marriage.  About 1850 I believe my Keogh would have been living in Cty. Cavan.

Have you checked the link for your marriage?

  • It sounds like you have at least two sources of records on the family, perhaps both in Dublin?: a census location (in Dublin?), and a baptismal place (of which we presume your interest in St.Mary's Pro RC).

Your internal thought process questions to yourself have probably included:

You also may have a ship transit materials?

You have likely followed the biography thuroughly after the arrival in the States?

Taking this chronology, you have likely attempted to add any intermediate records which might be possible or available: city or trade directories,

You have a street, perhaps property records?

Any other clues from the records you have that could lead to something elsewhere?

If you come up with other ideas, others here in ths parish interest group might also benefit, or further assist.

If you have other questions or need referals, let us know.

  • Dear EHKC, I am the great-great grandson of John Keogh of Archibald Place, the great grandson of Terence Keogh (his son) who ended up moving to Dominick Street Lower in 1911 and later on to Temple Bar where my grandmother Bridget Keogh lived (she wasn't on the census as she wasn't born, but her sister Marion moved to London...). My Dad's cousin has got most of the info on the Keogh's here, saw some photographs years ago, only now that I'm looking into the history of the family seriously, was shocked to see that we have relations in Cavan! Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions...it's really hard to track down family history here, unless you know where to look, as most of the records were destroyed during the War of Independence when the Records Office went up in flames...feel free to contact me!

It was good to see your posting and to see that perhaps we are related.  I have also encountered other relatives here in US.  They are descendants of Terence through Christopher.

Do you know if there were twin brothers named Edward & Edwin?  Or if Richard, Fred, or Thomas married?

On my grgrandfather's marriage cert. it said his father was Nicholas.  My father was Nicholas too, named for his uncle Nicholas Patrick.  I have not found any Nicholas in Cavan area.
