Looking for Charles Kirby, Mary (Laherty) Kirby family. Each born in Ireland, immigrated to New Foundland then the United Satates. Not known if they were married in Ireland or New Foundland, or where in Ireland they were born. Only information known is they were in Wisconsin, USA in 1860 with several children born in New Foundland in 1840-1850. They immigrated to the US in 1851.

Cheryl:
Looks like Charles and Mary may have been born in the 1810-1820 time period. I assume they were Roman Catholic. Many RC parishes do not have baptismal records back to 1810-1820. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not locate a marriage record. There were about seven Mary Laherty baptismal records between 1810-1820. Most were in Co. Kilkenny with two in Co. Tipperary. I did not locate any Charles Kirby baptismal records between 1810-1820. We would need to know the parents names for Mary to see if any of the records are for her.
Have you considered DNA testing?

Thanks, Roger. I believe Mary Laherty was born in 1820 and is RC. The US 1860 census showed that she was 20 years older than her daughter, Mary J, which also listed MJ as being 20 years old. The reason I believe they were RC is because her grand daughter, my great-grandmother, was RC. Also, Mary's husband's first name may not have been Charles, that was another person's first name. According to traditional naming patterns, it could have been James. And to answer your question, I have only briefly considered DNA testing, but it may be the best alternative.
