I'm trying to find leads to find the parents and siblings of Stephen Lambert born in 1768, died 1842. Buried in St. Ruan cemetery, Kilrane, Co Wexford. Also in the same cemetry is buried Margaret Lambert (d 1783) probably married of a Sinnot. I'm in contact with my relatives of Wexford all descendants of Stephen.

I've been in Ballygillane a couple of years ago and my relatives also have a Bible signed by Nicholas Whitty dated in 1749.

Thx,

Guillermo Lambert

  • Do you know what denomination Stephen or his other descendants you mentioned were ?

St. Ruan’s Catholic Church was built around 1832, and there seems to have been an earlier chapel referred to as Saint Rhanus's.

The headstones at this church were surveyed in 1983 as part of Brian Cantwell ‘s survey and he mentions several inside the old church building - no Lamberts, and “no external burial noted", unclear if he means that he didn’t get to survey any, or that he could not read any…

The 1st Edition OSI maps dated c1840 show the chapel but no associated graveyard, whilst the later maps (c1890)  show a graveyard in a former wooded area to the south of the church.

The Church was a chapel of ease to Tagoat RC parish, unfortunately most sources (e.g. NLI films etc) only show baptism and marriage records for the parish available back to 1853. RootsIreland source lists mentions that they transcripts for some baptism records for the parish back to 1812.

  • Unfortunately the Catholic records for the area will probably not able to progress your search as the records are not available - the baptisms and marriages for Tagoat and Kilrane RC parish only cover back to 1853, or 1812 on RootsIreland baptism transcripts, and marriages back to  or 1853, and like many Catholic parishes the registers for the parish did not include records of death.burials in their registers for early dates - entries are only noted for 1875 to 1880.

It might be worth checking for the various transcript websites, IGP Findagrave etc with transcripts of headstones, to see if any cover Kilrane or possibly Tagoat graveyards ?

Have you or any of your Wexford relatives visited Kilrane graveyard, did you spot any pre-1840 headstones  ?
From the OSI historic maps it looks like the graveyard at Kilrane only opened some time later… could Stephen possibly have been buried in the older graveyard at Tagoat ?
Bear in mind that not every burial had a headstone, and one put in place in the 1700s may not be still standing or legible.

Back to my roots in KILRANE, Co.Wexford
My name is Belen Richards Donnelly, i'm from Argentina and Im doing a research about my ancestors.

I am the great grandchild of JOHN DONNELLY, one of the boys (teenagers) who came to Buenos Aires, in 1844.

At that time, he was only 11/12 years old and he came with other 11 kids, some of them called John Murphy and William Lambert. This song writes about the story of this immigration trip to argentina. https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/5009245/5001153

I was wondering if you have any information about the Donnellys from KILRANE, living there in 1844, and were was located their home., or if you can guide me who to ask about them.

    Thank you very much. Belen
