Greetings, Bernard J Lavin (b 1854) is my great grand father who emigrated to Buffalo, NY, US in 1873 with his cousin Owen Lavin. His parents are believed to be Charles and Mary Beirne Lavin who lived in the townland of Cloonfeacle, Kiltoghert parish. Bernard married Johanna Courtney in the US in 1887. My grandmother is Theresa F Higgins (b 15 July 1880) to parents Francis and Catherine Brennan Higgins in Bellinameen, Boyle, Roscommon. Interested to confirm this info and determine if I still have any Lavin relatives in Ireland. Also interested in whether Kate Lavin's pub in Boyle is still in business and if Kate Lavin is a relative. Thank you! Kevin Lavin, Bonita Springs, FL, US

Hi Patricia, I'm curious to know who you are. Are you connected to Irelandxo or just a kind person helping out someone (me) searching for his ancestors? You've helped to confirm that the info I have is correct. My Lavin family is from Cloonfeacle, Kiltoghart, County Leitrim and my grandmothers family (Higgins) is from Carntogher, Elphin, County Roscommon.
Any suggestions on how I might attempt to find out if any of my family is still in the area and how I might contact them?
Thanks and warm regards, Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your kind words. I don't work for IrelandXO, but I do try to help fellow members.
To find living relatives might be a challenge, as you are talking about people who left Ireland a long time ago. Even so, why don't you google to see if there are heritage societies in Elphin and Leitrim, and then contact them to see if they can help? Some of these groups have Facebook pages. You might also write to local newspapers in the areas--they're probably online--with your query.
Good luck!
Patricia
