I've recently found out that one of my 2nd great Aunts, Josephine Lawless, married John Dee in Clonmel in 1934.  I''m trying to find out more about Josephine, in hopes finding out more about her parents.  Half of the siblings stayed in Clonmel and the other half came to Chicago.  The ones that stayed in Clomel died young.

Josephine & John Dee had Maurice Dee who sadly passed away in 2010.   Josephine passed away in 1977.

Josephine's parents were John Lawless (born about 1854 and died April 1920) and mother, Mary Lawlor (born 1861 in Waterford and died April 28, 1940 in Clonmel).  John's father was Patrick Lawless and they were tailors.  John moved his family from Dublin to Skibberdean to Clonmel. They resided in Clonmel from 1908 then on.  Mary's father's name was Walter and he died in Poulnaguoge, Co. Tipperary in 1872.

Anyone have any information on them?

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the family makes a connection with you and shares some information about Josephine.

In the meantime it may be an idea to contact the local parish priest for possible assistance. As the family were living in the parish as late as the 20th century he may know of someone who may be able to assist you. Here are the contact details for the parish office:

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

  • Thank you!  Do you know if the Parish of St. Peter & Paul has any email contacts?  I can't seem to find them on this website.
