Margaret Lacy was my Grandmother's sister.

Thomas Leddy (son of Philip) was a Constable in the Royal Irish Constabulary and stationed in Tinahely when he married Margaret Lacy on 28 October 1894. Their first child, Catherine (Kathleen) was born in Tinahely in 1898, when Thomas Leddy described himself as a retired Policeman.

In 1901, Thomas and Margaret were living with Catherine Leddy, mother of Thomas, in Woteraghy, Drumcarban with their two children, Kathleen and Bridget (b.1899 in Woteraghy). Thomas Leddy was now a Farmer.

Thomas Leddy died in 1906 and his mother, Catherine died in 1908.

In 1911, Margaret Leddy was in Woteraghy with four of her five children - we now have Margaret (b.1901), Agnes (b.1903 - married John Joseph Higgins in 1933) and Thomas Jr. (b.1905).

Whereas, I have been successful in tracing the siblings of Margaret Leddy (nee Lacy), this branch of the tree eludes me.

I assume you are interested in the Leddy line. Unfortunately, the RC recorrds for Ballintemple RC parish start in 1862 and since Thomas was born around 1852, no records would be available.

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballintemple civil parish shows a Philip Leddy in Woteraghy townland so possibly he is the father of Thomas

I did locate an 1894 Philip Leddy death record in Woteraghy townland  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

The informant was a daughter Kate. If Thomas had a sister Kate then possibly this reocrd is for his father.

  • Roger,

Thank you - I was hoping to discover what happened to Margaret and her children.

I have just found a letter sent in 1956 to my aunt on the death of my Grandmother, who was the daughter of Catherine Lacy (from Tinahely; sister of Margaret Leddy) and her husband John Lacey (Rathangan).

Letter of sympathy was from 'your cousin, Bird (or Brid) Leddy, Bridge Street, Belturbet'.

Thomas and Margaret Leddy had one son, also called Thomas (b.1905) - she could have been his daughter. Alternatively, she could be Bridget Leddy b.1899.

  • ...... as soon as things open up again, I'll have a look at the Cancellation Books in the Valuation Office - they might answer some questions (or, alternatively, pose some more!)
