Hi, it's been a while since I first posted in the group and it was an entirely different family, this time I'm looking for leads on the following and some how they're connected but I can't find where the connection is, which is why I'm coming here hoping to find someone who can.

Robert Quinlan who was a publican and owned three pubs in cork, Ireland

St. Patrick St, Fish St, And Barrackston. He married a lady named Eliza Lehane, their daughter Elizabeth/Eliza Quinlan married John James Smith in Liverpool, UK. John James's first wife was Catherine Lehane and her father's name was Charles Lehane- by the marriage cert of Catherine's and John's, Charles was a farmer, I dont know he owned a farm or just worked as a farmer. Then I found a possible baptism record for Eliza Lehane (robert's wife) with Charles Lehane as one of the sponsors/godfather. Here is the record I found. Thankyou Hayley Dooley

  • Hello Hayley ,

I saw the record you referenced but I am not clear what is the question that you are asking? Can you be a bit more specific and i will try to help? I am a bit muddled. There were lots and lots of Lehanes in Co Cork. Are you trying to see if Eliza's sponsor was related in some way to her son-in-law's first wife's maternal grandfather?

    Please let me know?

  • Hi Geraldine, thanks for replying first of all. I've hit a brick wall to be honest, I'm looking into my 2nd great grandparents. John James Smith, and Elizabeth Quinlan. Elizabeth's parents are Robert Quinlan and Eliza Lehane, as I stated above the only info I have on Robert Quinlan was that he had three pubs in cork. Now with regards to Eliza Lehane, that's where I'm stuck....  I need to come back to my 2nd great grandad John for this, now John was married before he married my 2nd great grandmother Elizabeth Quinlan. His first wife was Catherine Lehane, now I'm wondering whether Eliza Lehane and Catherine Lehane are related in some way. Making Elizabeth quinlan and Catherine cousins, maybe?

  • I'm sorry. I can't make heads or tails of what you are saying. Maybe if you drew up a diagram? It's like those riddles of my father's father's son's mother's grandmother's aunt. I just can't make out what you are saying.

Could you say whose records you are looking for? Pick one person and give as much information about them as possible and I will try to help you.
