I am the great grandson of one John Lennon (ca. 1846-1926) of, we believe, the Cloonakilleg general area. We believe him to be the son of William Lennon and Mary Collins. He had at least two sisters, Brigid (who married a Mitchell when she immigrated to Indiana and died about 1908), and Catherine (who immigrated to Boston, married a Tierney, and died in 1880). We don't know of any brothers, but an Edward is possible. All were born in the 1840's, or so. William apparently died prior to 1850 and Mary may have married a Joseph Killian shortly thereafter, and immigrated to the US soon afterward. John immigrated (according to his self-report in 1890 in the US Census) to the US in 1869. Here's our problem. John could read and write, and family lore has him arriving in the US with 5,000 gold pieces (a notion I've discounted). But he was able to marry a "lace curtin" Scot by the name of Euphemia Sweeney in 1876 so he might have had some cash--he likewise opened a successful grocery in Boston prior to his marriage. I understand from Fr. Beirne and the book of the history of Tisrara parish (and Dysart) that the Church burned down in the 1850's taking its records with it. Checking the Irish library for the area tells me there are no Church records extant prior to 1850, which is when I need them. But there have to be some non-Church records available, right? If you have any information or questions, I can be contacted at danlennon3@bresnan.net. Thanks--Dan Lennon
