Hello, I'm looking for info. about my GGg'mother Jane Anne Leonard FitzGerald (bef.1850-aft.1877) from Co. Cork.  Also her Family the Leonards? Jane Anne Leonard was married to John Thomas FitzGerald, their Daughter Helena/Ellen Fitzgerald Sheehan was supposedly born in Skibbereen, Co Cork. Any help would be very much appreciated! I know nothing about her, except that she died of Dropsy & then John Thomas went to live w/his Daughter, Mary FitzGerald O'Driscoll, Wife of Thomas O'Driscoll where he died in 1908. Thanks & Be well, Jack MacDonald-Hilton

  • Jack,

I will keep looking. This might be Mary who married Thomas Driscoll. They got married in 1880 in Cork. John, her father, was a baker.

  • Mary, Thank you very much! A Baker eh? John Thomas Fitzgerald, Helena/Ellen's Father was a Baker in Cork City! At least that was the Occupation listed on  John J. & Helena/Ellen's Marriage Cert. from Aug. !884, while John's Father was listed as a Manual Laborer, John Timothy Sheehan was actually a Carpenter. He died in the Cork City Workhouse of Pneumonia in 1882! His Wife, Mary Maher Sheehan, Daughter of James Maher, had already gone to Malden, MA, USA & was working there as a PA (Physician's Assistant) she died in 1908. Be well, Jack MacDonald-Hilton

  • Jack,

Jane died prior to 1901. Her daughter Mary was born around 1864 in Cork City. In 1901, Mary Fitzgerald Driscoll was living on St. Finbarr Street, Cork City with her husband Thomas and family and her father John.

I think Jane died in 1873 at age 38.

  • I found records for some of Jane and John's children. They were members of St Mary's Parish in Cork and some were born on Blarney Street.- Kate 1865, Jeremiah 1867, William 1869, Jane Ann 1870, and John 1872.

If William was the second son, maybe's Jane's father is William??

  • Mary, I want to THANK YOU for all of your Endeavors on my Behalf!!!!! It really is VERY MUCH appreciated! Jane Anne Leonard FitzGerald's Father could not be William, he was her Son & Besides that it would have been Incest! So Jane Anne died at the Age of 35, so her Dates are then !850-1885? Now Helena Leonard, who was by her side when she died, her Sister or her Niece? So it seems that most of the Activity w/the FitzGerald Family took place at 20 Blarney St., Cork City?!e well, Jack

  • Jack,

I was referring to the Irish naming pattern. Second son is names after mother's father. Since William was Jane's second son, that might have been her father's name.

Jane born about 1838 and died in 1873.

  • Mary, Thanks, once again! After I sent off the last Email, it dawned on me what you meant! DUH! I am familiar w/the Irish naming Pattern, so I should have realized that right off! So I had her Date of Birth wrong, but was basically Correct on the Death Date? What I have for her children & their Dates, Helena 4/12/1865, Kate 4/13/1865, so perhaps Twins or I've gotten one of the Birth Dates wrong, Jeremiah J. 4/18/1867, Mary FitzG. O'Driscoll 1867, William 5/5/1867, Jane Anne (FitzG.) Joyce 9/24/1870, Jphn 9/24/1870 & Mary Norah (Hanorah?) (FitzG.)Joyce 9/4/1877! That's how I came to Guesstimate her Death Date, by the supposed Birth of her Last Child. Those Dates in some cases seem rather Wonky! Be well, Jack

  • Mary, I've been doing some Searching, I think that there's a STRONG Possibility that the Leonards came from Co. Kerry & not Co. Cork, what do you think? Be Well, Jack

  • Jack,

On Irishgenealogy (free) I checked Kerry Church records and I did not find Jane nor on RootsIreland (subscription).

Welcome to Irish Genealogy - Irish Genealogy

How did you conclude Jane was from Kerry?

    Regards- Mary
