I am researching my Leslie geneology. I believe that my great great grandfather was John Leslie who emigrated to South Australia with his new wife prior to 1840 (I guess). His son William had 8 children. Roydon Keith Leslie is my grandfather. The story is that the marriage was catholic/protestant and potatos were thrown . They left for Australia forthwith. Family rumour associates with the thatched manor house where Paul McCartney was married. I know that John and William are common names in the Leslie family. Previous efforts to identify 'our' John in Ireland have been fruitless.

Hi Terry,
The O'Brien public member tree on ancestry has the family. ancestry has free access at the moment.
John Leslie's wife was Ann Neil also born in Ireland.
I searched rootsireland.ie for their births/baptisms and found both - 1841 in Derry.
rootsireland.ie is a pay site so it will cost to get the records but the parents' names and parish will be on them.

Terry:
Castle Leslie is near the village of Glaslough in Donagh civil parish Co. Monaghan. The 1861 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Donagh parish only shows a Charles P. Leslie who owned much of the land in the area.I checked www.rootsireland.ie but could not find a John Leslie marriage from 1825-1840.
Finally, here is a link to Castle Leslie ( in case you don't have it) with some history of the family.
