I am trying to find out what happened to my ancestors after they were admitted to the workhouse. Bridgit Consadine and child age 12 possibly John Consadine who were sentanced on 20th February 1878. I can only see the Guardians records. How can you tell how long someone was at the workhouse? Or if they died there? Are there any records about when somebody left and where they went. I have census records for John Consadine aged 14 in 1881 on an Industrial School Ship in Hull but no records of Mum Bridgit and Dad John. Also struggling with the interchangeable spelling of Consadine and Considine.
With thanks Paul

Hi Christina
I have trawled through the Guardians records and can see that there was a reference to them not being admitted to the Workhouse as the Father had offered financial assistance (after beating Mother and Child) that she had refused. I still have not managed to find a definite connection yet but I suspect that the child John was removed from the family as they may have had a criminal record possibly involved in prostitution according to petty court session records. However I have no evidence of the Magistrates that actually sent John to Hull.

Hi again Paul, You mention they may have travelled to England, have you searched for them on the English Census , Did you find them in the Irish 1901 or 1911 census. Irish Census, The next Irish census to be published will be the 1926. Also the name Considine is a Clare name, have you maybe found them there in Griffiths .Another source is the Voting registers,.
Best of luck, let me know how you get on.
