Anyone know about the Limerick Union Workhouse? When, where? My great grandmother died there in 1907. Where were those who died there buried? Thanks

Mary,
What was the name of your grandmother and where did she live before she entered the Workhouse.
Her family would have arranged the burial which would depend on where her husband, if he had died beforehand, was buried.
Your extended family may be aware of her burial place?

Hi, thanks for the response. My great grandmother Mary Nee Burns or Byrnes was married to Patrick Riordan and they lived in Herbertstown area. Her son, my grandfather James Riordan (sometimes spelled Reardon) lived with my grandmother Bridget O'Dwyer Riordan in Ballyvoudan near Kilteely. Mary and Patrick also had a daughter Ellen who married Con Hayes. In the 1901 census, Mary Riordan, my great grandmother is listed as head of the family, age 70 and listed as a widow. also in the household was her son in law Con Hayes age 39, daugher Ellen age 32 and two children Mary and John Hayes 5 and 3 years old.
Other info I have for the 1901 census: event place Cahercorney, Co LImerick. She was 70 and born in 1831
I have a death register of LImerick Union that lists Mary Riordan widow, 74 years old, debility certified died Oct. 31, 1906.
Says she died alone. I can't understand why she was there since she had two adult children, my grandfather and great aunt. Mainly want a burial site so when I visit next ttime I can find it. Thanks

Mary,
There are three deaths for a "Mary Riordan" You can access them at www.irishgenealogy.ie - Free site.
1906 in the Workhouse. Recorded as a Dealer. I do not see any comment in the entry,
1901 - Address City Meat Market Lane - Notified by son William,
1898 - Address 4, Taylor Street - Widow of Patrick Riordan.
Do you have proof that your grandmother died in the Workhouse?
Best Wishes,
McCoy
