My mother, Margaret Mary Beale was born 27th August 1926, and according to her birth certificate, the place of birth was Lismore House, Lucan. From what I have so far been able to find out, it was some form of hostel/boarding house, which has long since been demolished with the new roads around Lucan. My mother sadly died in 1980.

I am trying to locate an image of this house. On the Ordnance Survey Ireland Historical Maps, Lismore House is clearly marked, and appears to be a sizeable plot, between Kew Gardens and Laurel Lodge, and on the opposite side of the road to Sarsfield's Cottage.

Any help or suggestions on a source of finding an image would be appreciated.

Thank You

  • Based on Newspaper Adverts, Lismore House Lucan appears to have been a boarding house - e.g Irish Independent 26th March 1920 under "Hotels and Boarding Houses" "Lucan - Boardinghouse, near Spa, Links and Tram  Lismore House Lucan",  similar references appear in the 1930s and 40s.

  • Thom's 1925 and 1930 directories list the principle occupant/owner of Lismore House as a Miss M. Burke - there's no detailed address just 'Lucan'.

  • Thank you all for the replies. As suggested, I have emailed Lucan library, but no response yet received.

I will have a look at the newspaper adverts, as i have a subscription to the Irish Newspaper Archive.
