I have visited Loughbeg/Passage West/County Cork in 2011 and 2012. At St Mary's Parish in Passage West, I learned a great deal about my ancestors. The Sisks who came to Canada were Patrick Sisk and Honora Murphy: Patrick baptized Feb 10, 1803, Honora baptized Feb 13, 1803, married Oct 24,1824; their first born was William, baptized Sept. 18, 1825. After that, there are no other records of any baptisms for children of Patrick and Honora; I believe they came to Canada around 1828-30. According to the St. Mary's records, Patrick's parents were William Sisk (WS) and Catherine Conway (CC). Honora's parents were John Murphy (JM) and Honora Marescal (HM). I have been trying to locate records for WS/CC and JM/HM to no avail.

I learned a new parish was created in 1819 near Loughbeg (where they lived, according to the St. Mary's Parish records) - Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Shanbally. http://www.corkandross.org/parishes.jsp?parishID=48 My attempts to get info from there have been unsuccessful. Would you have any suggestions on how I might get access to the records for IH of M? Since this church was much closer to Loughbeg than Passage West, my thinking is that perhaps other children of Patrick and Honora may have been baptized at IH of M, before the family departed for Canada (1830s sometime). As well, there might be death records for WS/CC and/or JM/HM or other family members. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thank U!

  • Hello,

My apologies to all. I have not accessed this site for some time. As per my post in 2013, I obtained the info from St. Mary's in Passage West. Hoping to go further back from possible other sources, such as the parish in Shanbally.

Attn: siskabob - nothing new. Who is your husband? A distant cousin? Are you in Canada like me?

    Many thanks.

    Ted

    Hi Ted,

I found two additonal children for William and Catherine on http://registers.nli.ie/.  Abigail - 10 Sept. 1805 and William - 17 March 1808. I think William - 1825 was the only child of Patrick and Honora born in Ireland and I believe the rest were born in New Brunswick. My husband John descended from their son Patrick - 1836, his son Francis Joseph (Frank) - 1875, and his son Alvin - 1903. Alvin was born in Brooklyn, NY and was one of eight children. The family eventually moved to Schenectady, NY where my husband was born.

  • Hi siskabob,

Actually, I have that info about Abigail and William. (forget the source, will have to look at my material) Sure sounds like the same bunch :)) Your husband John would be my 3rd cousin - same great-great grandparents. My great-grandfather was Daniel Patrick Sisk, youngest child of Patrick and Honora, born 1850. His son/my grandfather was Leo Joseph born 1889; his son my father was Richard Ronald, born in Pokeshaw, NB (as were Daniel P. and Leo) in 1920. Yes, William born in Ireland - I have a copy of his baptism record as I do for Patrick and Honora, along with their wedding record. William is buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery in Grand Anse, NB, next town east of Pokeshaw, as is my great-grandfather and grandfather, along with their spouses. If you would like, I can provide you my personal email/telephone number if you would like to exchange info more efficiently. Thank you!!!
