Hi,
I am trying to trace relatives for a friend of mine in the US
Andrew Joseph Logan born about 1820 emmigrated to the US together with his brother Patrick and sister Ann in 1848. Andrew later married Julia Joy from Tralee in the 1850's. Andrew's profession was listed as a cabinet maker.
According to Griffiths valuation, there was a Dominick Logan living in Tuam in 1855.
Is anyone familiar with this family or are there any Logans living in Tuam today?
Many thanks,
Ann Marie Fair

hi,
There were certainly a few LOGANs and LOGHANs still around in 1901 in Galway.
Try googling for "genealogy + galway + logan" there are a number of people researching the family name.
There are some records of marriages and deaths here which mention an Andrew LOGAN - where abouts in the US did he live ??
re: are there any Logans living in Tuam today?
There is a LOGAN Art gallery in Galway.
http://www.11890.ie/search/search-results.aspx?what=logan&where=galway.
There is a mailing list for Galway, it is worth joining the list and posting your enquiry there.

Hi Sean,
Thank you for your prompt reply!
I had looked at the 1901 and 1911 census and had noticed a few Logan families and it is those parishes I have messaged to see if anything pops up. They seem to be more populated in Kilcummin or Clonrush.
I had located the family search records for Andrew Logan and traced him back to New York on the 1850 census. In later years he settled in Henderson, Illinois.I have been unable to locate a marriage cert for him as he married Julia Joy in the 1850's in the US. I do know he left Ireland in 1848. Have you any idea how do get a marriage cert for the 1850's in the US?
I had tried the baptism records in the NLI for Andrew or his siblings for Kilcummin but the particular years I needed were not microfilmed so I will contact the parish priest on Monday. Clonrush parish do not have records going back that far but a local man is checking it out for me.
Thank you for the information on the art gallery in Galway. I will follow it up and also the new posting sites.
Thanks again for all your help,
Kind regards,
Ann Marie

hi,
I presume this is the family in 1850 NY, I guess 61yo Margaret LOGAN is an Aunt ??
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MCB3-76D
This could be the death of a son John in Illinois in 1944, age 84 years.
It says both parents were born in Galway.

re: how do get a marriage cert for the 1850's in the US?
I would join the following list and ask them the same question.

There are a load of mailing lists for Illinois which could be worth joining.

hi,
There seem to be few Illinois records where Andrew LOGAN is the father of the Bride/Groom amd Julia JOY is the Mother of the Bride/Groom.

Hi Sean,
I spotted all the connections on family search so am ok with that side of things. I am just hoping to trace the townland in Galway that the Logans came from.
All other family info points to Julia being from Tralee but I did see that Galway was listed as her place of origin on the son's birth cert so maybe I should heed it!
I think Margaret Logan was their mother and I think there may also have been another brother, Daniel, who emmigrated with them.
Thanks for the info on the marriage cert and the mailing lists. I will check into that.
Kind regards,
Ann Marie

Hello Ann Marie. Yes. I am a living relative of Andrew Joseph Logan and Julia Jane Joy. They were my GG Granparents on my Dad's side. My dad was an only child. His dad had brothers and sisters. I was excited to see your message from 2013!

Hello Sean. I was researching for a family friend who lives in the US. Do you live in Ireland by any chance?

Sorry I am unable to direct message you Sean. My friend is an older lady who lives in Arizona. She attended the Logan family reunion in 2013. I believe she is a gggranddaughter of Andrew Logan. I will send your cousin an email. Think I have located him!

Hi Sean,
I managed to get hold of your cousin and he confirmed to me that the Logan/Loghan branch came from near Ballygar/Killian area of Galway. He didn't have a baptismal record for Andrew. Do you have any idea what year he may have been born?
Many thanks,
Ann Marie
