Hello all - I'm researching my Long family and looking for connections, birth records, marriage record, the usual. Here's what I know:
My 2 x GGF was Jeremiah Long b. abt 1821 and emigrated to the US -arrived in NYC in Jan 1853. He was the son of Denis Long and Mary Leary (info from his death record). Died 9 Jul 1887 in Portsmouth, NH. He was married twice - his first wife was Ellen Gavin b. 1827 in Ireland - don't know where - but they were married and came together as passengers in 1853 on the ship "Ann". Perhaps she was also from Bandon. I would love to find anything about her.
When I search the church records, I have found the only Denis Long/Mary Leary couple to be from Bandon w/ the birth of 2 older children. John Long b. 1814 and Ellen Long b. 1817 both baptized in Bandon. Both names John and Ellen have traveled down through my family.
I appreciate any help you can bring to this, many thanks,
Mary E. Curran

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
I don't think Ellen Gavin was from Cork. More likely she was from a county further north from Cork. Check out this site that one of our volunteers has developed https://www.swilson.info/sdist.php and you can see where the surname Gavin was found in the mid-19th century.
It is very surprising that Jeremiah's baptismal record is not included on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie since Bandon RC records do not appear to have any gaps. Have you scanned the baptismal registry? The handwriting is not too bad and they even have an index on each page showing the child's full name which makes it easier to search https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0017

Roger,
Thanks for the hints. I'll do both of those things. I'm pretty sure of the Bandon connection since the parents named as a couple aren't found in other records that I can see. I'll takea look at those sites.
