Looking for my ancestors of my great grandmother.  Her name was Mary E. Conway and she was born in 1872.  On her marriage certificate she lists her father as Michael and her mother as Bessie.  I do not have any other information about her since my grandfather (her son) died when my own father was an infant.  She emmigrated to the US in 1883 and either traveled to Philadelphia or New York.

  • Hi Trempy,

I assume she did not emigrate on her own if she was only 11, have you tried to locate her parents in the USA ?

  • Annemarie,

The immigration records of her arriving in Philadelphia that would match to the year show that she did indeed come without family named Conway...whether others on the list were Aunts or Uncles, I am not sure but trying to look at those as possible leads.

I did find some baptismal records on FamilySearch.org that listed some possibilities for Mary's mother's name. I am going to post on some of the parish sites to see if I might find some more information.

I also connected with someone who is possibly my 3d cousin....we were linked by DNA and she had thought that my Mary (great-grandmother) and her great-grandmother, Bridget Conway,  might be sisters.  It looks as if they might have travelled separately to the US but then lived in the same town in Pennsylvania.  Slowly but surely we are getting more information!

I did do the DNA test through 23andme from this site and I am hoping that perhaps I might make some connections there as well.

    Thanks!  Laura
