Looking for any info Thomas Maher (abt 1821) and Elizabeth Carroll (abt 1824)

I've had a brick wall trying to find the roots of ggggrandparents Thomas Francis Maher and his wife Elizabeth Carroll. They came to the US (New York) in 1852. Most of the family stories have been fiction. I have a fairly decent picture of them once they came to the US, but no insight at all to where they came from in Ireland. Family stories say "Thurles" so that is where I'm starting here. There seem to be many fellows born around that time with that name, but I'm hoping there are relatives somewhere who recognize these names. Only one of their children had children, so we are a small, close-knit bunch. Thank you in advance for any help!
