Hi there!

I just joined this community and I'm unsure if this is an odd request. My dad and I are doing some detective work to find details about his birth mother. He had always been told she was from Ireland, and we recently obtained his original birth certificate which confirmed it.

He was born in the Chicago, Illinois area in 1969. Last name Langan and she was either born in 1942 or 1943. All of his Ancestry information links him to relatives in Mayo (and we have evidence to believe his mother is from Ballina). I'm happy to provide more details by private message if anybody has any leads.

Would love if someone could point us in the right direction on this. He had a happy childhood we are aware this is a sensitive subject. People put children up for adoption for a number of reasons, and we have no desire to be an unwelcome obtrusion into someone's life or past. He is simply just curious and open to communication if the opportunity/want is there.

Thank you!

  • Have you searched immigration records on Ancestry or Familysearch?

    Also try this website: https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

It is a pay site but they have actual records online you can download.

  • FYI- irishgenealogy.ie is a free site but there are no civil birth records after 1923 because of the 100 year rule for privacy.
