I am looking for information about my great grandfather, Peter Bird (parents, etc). The information I have is he was born in County Meath around 1835-1840. He had a brother James and a sister Ann, both who emigrated to the same area that he did in Pennsylvania. I am not sure if he had siblings who remained in Ireland. He married Elizabeth Evans, daughter of John Evans and Marcella Connell in Ireland. He and Elizabeth had two children in Ireland, Anne in November 1866 and Michael in March 1868. The birth register lists District of Milltown, Union of Mullingar, County of Westmeath. Fathers dwelling place is Larkfield. They emigrated to the US, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts on April 8, 1870, on the ship “City of Baltimore”. They appear on the 1870 census taken on July 9, 1870, living in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania with a Patrick C. Fagan and his wife Rose. Peter’s age was listed as 35 and Elizabeth’s as 26. The 1880 census has his age as 40 and hers as 35. Her death certificate in 1916 lists her age as 64. The 1870 census shows they also now had a one-month old daughter Marcella, as well as 3-year old Anne (she would turn 4 in November, and 2-year old Michael). They had other children in the US, Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth (Mary and Elizabeth died young 5 and 3), Peter, Mary (Mollie -my grandmother) and Ellen (Nellie). My mother’s sister, Sister Mary Wivell O.P. (Deceased June 2000) visited Ireland at some point and met relatives there, not sure if they were related to Peter or to Elizabeth.

I am planning to come to Ireland on May 29 and will for sure come to Westmeath just to see where my great grandparents came from. My grandmother told my mother that her father, Peter Bird, was very proud to be from Westmeath.
