Hi I am trying to find more info on my 2x great grandfather Michael Flynn born 1837 in Ireland per the census record in Ohio. I do have his marriage certificate from Bolton, England. He went from Ireland to Bolton, England. He married Mary Quinlan Jan. 5, 1862. He was 25 according to the copy of the marriage record I have. His father's name was also Michael. He is shown in New Jersey in 1867. If I had his birth date it would help. I just ordered the birth certificate of their son John J. Flynn born 1865 in Bolton. Im hoping this will give me Michael's birth date.
I have narrowed down a few possibilies of his birth:
parents: Michl Flynn ans Nancy Roche- baptized 9 Apr, 1837 baptismal place Kilworth, Waterford and Cork, Ireland (all these names are confusing to me....I know Cork is a county and city. Waterford is a city)
parents: Michael Flynn and Catherine Kenny-baptized 28 May 1837 in the county of Waterford.
Any leads would be helpful. I know my mom took the DNA test and it showed her Irish roots strong in Leinster Provine (Michael was her gr- grandfather).
Thank you very much,
Debbie Colson

Debbie:
Many immigrants changed their year of birth (and sometimes the month and day) when they came to their new country. Usually, they made themselves younger. Also, a good number of RC parishes in Ireland do not have records back to 1837.
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and there are six Michael Flynn baptismal records in 1837 with father Michael. Two in Cork, one each in Sligo, Mayo, Westmeath and Longford. One of the two in Cork is the Kilworth RC parish record that you identified. The other Co. Cork record was in Fermoy RC parish with father Michael Flynn and mother Ellen Carroll.
I would try to track down his death record and/or his obit to see if you can locate his mother's maiden name.
Civil registration of births did not start until 1864.

Thank-you Roger for your information and help. I think I have found the same 5 or 6 options as you. Your suggestion of his death record is a good idea. In Ohio however, they did not have death certificates until after 1885 or so and he died in 1883. I have a death notice but no parents names sadly. The obit was 2 sentences long. I will keep looking. I was lucky enough to get his father's name from his marriage certificate in England.
thanks again,
Debbie
