My great grandfather, Addison Clohosey, was born in New Jersey, USA about 1880. His father was born in Ireland. I have no other information on where he may have lived. I'm hoping that his relatively uncommon surname will help in pinpointing a county in Ireland where I can search more records.

You can go to www.rootsireland.ie and register. You can then look at the Griffiths Valuation head of household listings from the mid-19th century for free.
I entered Clohosey and there were none shown in Ireland but there were 56 individuals with variant names primarily Clohessy and Cloughhessy. Clohessy is primarily a Co. Clare name while Cloughessy is found primarily in Co. Kilkenny.

Thank you Roger,
I did find a large number of Clohoseys with this same spelling, including a great aunt, on this site.
There is much more digging to be done...but thanks again for pointing me to this resource.
