My 2nd great grandfather was Patrick Morrison born about 1823.  He emigrated to Vermont, USA in 1843. His wife was Annie Merrick, not sure where they were married. His death record states his parents were James Morrison & Ellen Mortimer.

Patrick's brother, Michael, emigrated to Clinton, Massachusetts in 1897.  His death record gives his parents as James & Ellen with no maiden name given and that he was from Louisburgh.

Patrick is found in Griffith's valuation in Killadoon, Kilgeever.

I recently found an article in the Mayo News for Saturday, November 22, 1975 about the death of a James J. Morrison. I have inferred from the article that he owned the Morrison Hotel, Killadoon, Louisburgh.

I'd be very interested to know if he was descended from my 3rd great grandfather, James Morrison, and if I have cousins still living in the area.

Best regards,

  • Kat,

I found an obituary for James's wife, which lists their children and where they were living in 2017. Perhaps you might contact the children and see if you can make a connection to James and Ellen.

    Good luck.
