William was born 1891, Sam in 1893.  I am the grandson of their brother, Robert and I now have a 9 year old granddaughter who is asking a lot of questions about family.  I would love to let her know that she has relatives in Ireland

thank you, Curtis Weisner

  • Hi Curtis, Crawford is still a common name in Antrim so it is possible you still have distant relations there or elsewhere in Ireland, did you try to create a family tree yet? Also a dna test might give some dna matches in Ireland .

Check out www.irishgenealogy.ie  they have church and civil records and is free to search.

  • This may be your family in Tullymore in the 1901 census:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Broughshane/Tullymore/928278/

     and in 1911:

Ballymena Observer of 12th Nov 1915 reported a list of local folk who had joined the army. One was Trooper S. Crawford of Tullymore, who joined the North Irish Horse. Presumably that was your Samuel.

    Thomas died in 1929:

Crawford Thomas of Tullymore Broughshane county Antrim farmer died 9 November 1929 Probate Belfast 6 June to William Crawford farmer and George B. Caruth solicitor. Effects £108 5s.

Belfast Newsletter 7th October 1965 contains a death notice for 5th October, at the Waveney Hospital, Ballymena. Margaret J W Crawford, eldest daughter of the late Thomas & Agnes Crawford, Tullymore. Funeral today.

Ballymena Observer of 20th Dec 1984 contains a memorial notice placed by James & Maud Crawford of Tullymore Rd, Broughshane.

    Probate abstract:

Crawford, Margaret Jane Wilson of Tullymore Broughshane Ballymena county Antrim spinster died 8 October 1965 at Waveney Hospital Ballymena Probate Belfast 30 November to William Crawford farmer and James Henry Bamber solicitor. Effects £444 12s.

The above will should be in PRONI and seems likely to give details of Margaret’s relations at that time. You might want to get PRONI to copy it for you (for a fee).

Tullymore is on the eastern edge of Broughshane. The modern Carnlough Rd and Tullymore Rds both run through it. You might want to make local enquiries to see if there are any Crawfords there today.

Plenty of Crawfords buried in Broughshane 1st graveyard. That may have been your family’s church.
