Hello, I am new to the site and hoping someone out there can assist me. I am looking for information of a John Dooker whom I believe was born in Mayo, Ireland 1835. He was married to a Mary Freeman in Leeds, Uk 6 March 1858 and died in Leeds, Uk 1935. On the marriage certificate it states that John's father was Peter Dooker (labourer). Information I have been given by family members shows the father as Patrick Dooker. Different spellings for Dooker (Dougher, Duker)
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Louise,
Welcome to the site.
I searched a site called rootsireland for John Dooker / Duker / Dougher born 1835 Mayo father Peter or Patrick.
I only got 1 match (attached) a Jno born 1834 (parish Kilfian) but his father wasn't Patrick or Peter.
I searched for any children born to a Patrick and got Celia (attached). I then tried Peter and got Edward (attached).
The Tithe Applotments 1823-37 has lots of Doughers in Mayo (attached).
Griffiths Valuation 1856-7 also has lots of Doughers in Mayo including 4 Patricks (attached).
I suggest you contact the Crossmolina Parish on this site to see if they can help you as there are quite a few Doughers there. (It was good you suggested the alternate spelling).
Bets regards

Hello Col,
Thank you for replying to my message, From the information family members have given me, John Dookers mother was a Bridget Maran born 1804 in Ireland. I do not know if this her maiden name or a married name, either way I have found nothing that connects. I shall have a look at the information you sent me though. Also John had a son called James and I have ordered his birth certificate from Leeds, Uk 1866 to see who is listed as his father.
thanks again

Hi Louise,
I had a look for Bridget Maran's 1804 birth on rootsireland and the only match I could get was the attached - born in Dublin.
I tried marriages 1824 + or - 10 years for Bridget Maran and Dooker + variations but only got the attached one in Sligo - groom's name is Patrick but not Dooker! I then tried without any years specified and got Bridget Marren marrying a Dougher (not Patrick) in 1870 which would make her 66 if born in 1804!
Best regards
Col

Hi Col
Thanks once again for your response. I think I have also found these records, but unfortunately none of them seem to marry up with the peoples names I have. I shall try the bridget maran born in dublin and also will have a look at the crossmoline parish site you suggested.
Regards
