The baptism record of my Great Grandmother, Bridget Crowe, duaghter of Daniel and Catherine indicates that they were from Bransha. But as I have done research on the family, i have thought that their twonland is now named Breansha, But I have seen Bransha on maps of Tipperary. It appears to be a village like Emly not a townland. Have I been looking for my ancestors in the worng place?

Hi,
The town of Bansha is on the road between Caher/Cahir and Tipperary Town on the National Road No. 24.
There are two townlands in the area - Bansha East and Bansha West. Some maps show the name of the town in gaelic - Bhainseach.
Bansha is recorded in he Barony of Clanwilliam and the Civil parish of Templeneiry.
I have not found a place named "Bransha" in Grittith's Valuations.
Do you have Bridget's birth year. Civil records for births in Ireland are from January 1st 1864. Church records can vary.
You can search the following free sites for a record of Daniel Crowe - www.nationalarchives.ie - Tithe Records - 1823 - 1837 and www.askaboutireland.ie/Griffith's for property holdings - 1840-1860 - catholicparishregistertsnli.ie for church records.

Hi,
To add to the above, I find that a great source of information on townlands in Ireland is at this link: https://thecore.com/seanruad/. It is possible to do a search using part of a name or a full name.
Best wishes, Kieran
