Looking for information on my direct paternal ancestor Jeremiah O'Connolly born in Tuam in 1749. Immigrated to the US sometime in early 1800's, changed the family name to Conley. He married Mirah Whalen b.17633, d.1825.
His parents were Jeremiah O'Connolly Sr born in Galway Bay, Galway 1724, died in Galway 1791. Mother was Bridget Cooper born 1726, died 1786, place unknown.
I have no other information

hi,
I am afraid there are no records in Ireland that go back that far.
Official records for individuals began in 1864 for Catholics, and a few years earlier for Protestants and other religions.
Emigration records for the 1700s wouldn't show much information either.
Where abouts in America did they emigrate to ??
There were a lot of CONNOLLYs living in Galway c.1855 when Griffiths Valuation was taken, this listed only the leaseholder of the land/property.
There were nearly 1300 CONNOLLYs living in Galway when the 1901 Census was taken.
Without the name of a Townland it is impossible to know which family your ancestor is related to.
Sorry I can't be more help.
Regards,
SEAN

To add to seans comment ther are few 1821-51 Census records. I am guessing many were destroyed in the shelling of The customs House in the Irish civil war. some survive
Coming soon online:
Nineteenth century census survivals, 1821-51;
Valuation Office House and Field Books, 1848 – 60;
Census Search Forms for the 1841 and 1851 censuses.You can get the Griffiths Valuation online
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
You can click on the old map with the new one superimposed
You can cross reference Parish records with them
You can also use the allotment books There is a manuscript book for almost every civil (Church of Ireland) parish in the country giving the names of occupiers of each townland, the amount of land held and the sums to be paid in tithes. Because the tithes were levied on agricultural land, urban areas are not included. Unfortunately, the books provide only the names of heads of family, not other family members.
The books have been digitally imaged, and a database giving surname, forename, county, parish and townland created. All of these fields can be searched, and there is also a browse facility, which allows users to survey entire parishes and townlandshttp://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
Soldiers’ Wills from 1914 to 1917, and the Calendars of Wills and Administrations from 1858 to 1922. are also online
