Hello all! .I am searching for the family of my paternal Great Grandfather, William Peoples. William was born in Ireland about 1850+-5 years. He emigrated to the US when he was but 17 in about 1867. At about the same time, his aunt, by the name of Ann Brogan, also left for the US. She was much older than William - between 51-57 years old. They settled (separately) in Burlington County, NJ. William died in 1921; Ann died in 1891.
I am posting to this message board because the surname Peoples in Ireland is concentrated almost 100% in County Donegal and, in Griffith's Valuation, is further concentrated in 12 parishes through the center of the County. I’ve matched dna with one distant cousin born in Stranorlar. And I have found at least one record, a baptism in Gortahork, for a baby Phillip Brogan, parents Phillip Brogan and Anna (or Honora) Peoples! William left us no information about his family so I do not know his parents or if he had any siblings. His aunt’s own surname could be her birth name (if William's wife was a Brogan) or she could have been born a Peoples (William’s father’s sister) who married a Brogan.
Either way, I am hopeful that there may be Peoples or Brogans descendants in Donegal now who may be able to help me with my search for my Great Grandfather's origins! Thank you!
