Hi there.
I hope someone could help. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had this longing to visit Ireland. No explanation, just something pulling me towards the country.
then I met an elderly Irish lady, that told me that she is sure I am of irish descent, Red undertone in hair, green eyes etc.
I am trying to find out if this is true, and also where in Ireland if so. Any help on how to even start looking would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Annemarie
Thanks for your response. Our surname is Barnard. Father is Adam. Grandfather was Benjamin. On my mother's side it is Oosthuizen, wich i believe is Dutch, so that will not help.
To my knowledge, My father and grandfather were both born in South Africa. Lived here all their lives. Grandparents have all passed on unfortunately, and my dad doesnt know anything. It has never interested him, so he never asked.

Wow, that was quick.
I think it might have been a great grandfather etc. My dad was born in South Africa in 1958.
If I have my calculations correct, my grandfather was born in more or less between 1920 and 1930.

If this Benjamin Barnard is your great grand father then the family comes from a long line of London born Barnards , no Irish connections as far as I can see.
