I am the grandaughter of Kathleen ( or Katherine) Flynn (or Flinn) and Victor DiFate.  According to the sketchy history my grandmother was one of 11(?) children. She was born around 1913 and came to the NY when she was around 14 because two of her brothers, Michael and Patrick were here.  One was a police officer in Yonkers, NY.

I was told she was born Kathleen but changed her name to Katherine when she arrived in the States.  She passed away in 1971 and she had four children, John, Marion, Dolores, and William.

I'm not sure where she was born but I was told once she was born in Waterford and another time I was told she was born in Cork. 

This is all the information I have.  I know it's not a lot to go on.  My parents have passed as have my aunt and uncles so there is no one to provide more detail.  Any help or small detail would be greatly appreciated.

  • If you check the New York Naturalization papers (if she did naturalize) it will have her exact place  and date of birth and parents recorded.

    Hi, Do you have any other identifying information for her brothers, Patrick and Michael?  Like anything, their ages, where they lived, names of wives of kids?  I assume she was divorced from Victor DiFate?  I was reading his obituary and was trying to figure out what happened to her?

  • try contacting the Yonkers PD PBA and request information on your Grand Uncle. Google Yonkers PD, they will not just give this info over the phone but at least you can start the process. Now they require local residency but back then probably not. Maybe try Bronx records thru NYC records as well.  Good luck

  • According to the 1930 and 1940  New York census Catherine or Kathleen was born in New York  23 August 1910.

  • That SS Death index isn't the right Catherine, her grandaughter states she died in 1971.
