Hello I am looking for any information about the Cupples. I have limited information about a Cupplestown villiage near the River Kellswater and that some of my ancestors may be buried at the Loughbrickland Cemetery. Any info would be greatly appreiciated.

  • Cupples is a common enough name in Co Antrim. There are about 50 households listed in Griffiths Valuation (1862) mostly around the Ballymena ? Ballymoney area.

The 1901 census has 178 people of that name in Ireland, 145 of whom lived in Co Antrim and 33 in Co Down. The majority of the 178 people were Presbyterian indicative of Scottish ancestry. So they probably originated in south west Scotland, and moved to Ireland in the 1600s.

You need to be a bit more specific about dates and places if you want to trace Samuel & William (common names). When were they born and when did they leave Ireland?
