Cannot get past my great grandfather who was born in County Cork around 1816 and moved to Canada.  He married Frances Hornibrook, also from Cork, but I believe he was widowed before that marriage. He moved to Ogdensburg, NY, where he lived when he died.

  • Pnezezon:

I located a September 21 1839 marriage in the Bantry RC parish Charles Spriggs and Mary Walth on the free site irishgenealogy.ie  . Can't tell when your Charles left for Canada.

  • I can only find him first in Ontario Canada in 1847 when he gets married to Frances Hornibrook, also from Cork around that year. It says he was a widow prior to his marriage to Frances. They went on to have several children, but it doesn't look like he had any children from his previous wife.  This might be him who was married in 1839.  Is BantryRC around Cork? I tried looking at irishgenealogy.ie, but it kept saying no results.  Thank you so much for this information.  I can research Frances Hornibrook's family way back, but just got stuck on Charles.

  • Paula:

When you search on www.irishgenealogy.ie are you using the Church Record TAB? The marriage won't be on the Civil Records TAB. Bantry is about 55 miles from Cork city.

  • Thank you so much! I guess I wasn't looking at it properly.  Have a good day!
