Hello

Just starting my journey to find out about my grandfather - Martin Dufficy who I think was born in Elphin, Roscommon in I think 1879. He left for Australia in around 189? and married Bridgit Kenny. Looking to track down a birth certificate as a starting point. Any help much appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland has an 1871 and an 1880 baptismal records for a Martin Dufficy in Co. Roscommon. The 1880 record can't be your grandfather because the parish register has an annotation that that Martin Dufficy went to Canada. Do you know the parents names for your Martin? Below is the transcription of the 1871 record.

I located a civil birth record for another Martin Dufficy born in December 1880. Seventh record on the page https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1881/02826/2036684.pdf

  • Good morning Roger

Thank you so much for this - greatly appreciated. I'm the youngest grandchild and my grandfather dies before I was born.

The 1880 record is more likely the one - I will chase up more details asap.

    Thanks again

  • Hi Paul,
Martin emigrated to Australia following his brothers James, Maurice and Edward (from memory) and settled in the Tintenbar area in the Richmond River area of NSW, Australia.
I have been researching the DUFFICY name for a few years and would be only too pleased to pass on any information.
Please contact me directly on terrydufficy@gmail.com should you wish this information.
