Hello - My Grear Great Grandparents (John Higgins & Jane Wilkinson) emmegrated from Passage West to Canada in 1852.  The lived in Marmullane, Passage West, Co Cork, Ireland.  Thier five children were baptised at St Mary's.  I was wonderifng if anyone can tell me a bit more about Marmullane?  Was this area lived in by farm or drydock works?

Thansks for any help you can give.

  • Hi John!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Marmullane is a small civil parish which includes the town of Passage West. Here is a link to an 1837 Topographical Dictionary description of Marmullane.

  • Thank you Roger.  We plan on spending a week or so in Co Cork next year.  Can you recommend things to see in Passage West?

  • Hi John!

I live in the States so I'm not familiar with the locale. I will alert our HQ about your trip. What month are you planning to come to Ireland?
