Hello, hope someone can help! My great great grandfather, John Gilmore was born in Ireland, as did his wife, Elizabeth Burke. They both emigrated to the United States. US Census records for John conflict but I believe he was born in 1835 and arrived in the US around 1840. So I assume that they married in the US. I have found much about John concerning his life in the US but cannot find out where in Ireland he was born (a common problem I've heard!). His death record says that his father was also John Gilmore and his mother was Catherine O'Hare.
I am attaching my DNA information from Ancestry. I also have a great great grandfather and grandmother, Martin and Bridget Naughton, who I've managed to track down as coming from Creggs County Galway. Born and married in the Glinsk parish.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me breakthrough this brickwall!

I did not find a good lead for a baptismal record for John Gilmore with father John born around 1835. There was an 1822 record in Birr Co. Offaly with father John and mother Catherine (no maiden name provided) but I assume that record is too early.
The surname Gilmore in the mid-19th century was primarily found in Northern Ireland counties and in Connaught (Galway, Sligo, Mayo). However, with his mother having the surname O'Hare, I think the likely home county for John Gilmore would be Co. Down or Co. Armagh.

Thank you, Roger! Any suggestions on how to look in Co. Down or Armagh?

Roger and others!,
You have been so helpful to me in the past. I am still looking for my great great grandfather, John Gilmore, born in Ireland. As I mentioned in a previous post, according to census records, he was born in 1835 and emigrated to the United States around 1840. His death record says that his father was also John Gilmore and his mother was Catherine O'Hare. His first born son was named James.
Roger has suggested that with the surnames Gilmore and O'Hare, they likely came from Co. Down or Co. Armagh. I found a potential passenger list for John (attached). What stood out was the O'Hares towards the top and James and John Gilmore later. John did end up in New York. Any ideas on whether I could be right? Suggestions for next steps for me? Thanks in advance!
