Hello All

I am once again trying to get over a brick wall in my family and hope you can help me. I am looking for the origin of Mathew Wallace (b. 1822) and his wife Margaret Carr (b. 1808). None of the records or sources in the U.S. have yielded very much info about this couple and their daughter Matilda (b. 1844). Mathew sailed from Derry in 1847 and his wife and daughter show sailing from Liverpool in 1849. They arrived in New Orleans and settled by 1850 in St. Louis, Missouri. One newspaper article about Margaret stated she was from Derry. Children of this family all stated that the family was from "Auberlane." We believe that this may be something like "Upperlands" and spelled as they heard it. That is essentially all we have after extensive searches here in the U.S. - no townland or parish. Mathew and his sons worked for the railroads in MIssouri but also maintained small farms in areas around St. Louis. Mathew's naturalization record only states he was from Ireland.

The order of birth names for their sons were Daniel, William, and Mathew. Should I be looking for households for Daniel Wallace and William Carr presuming that they were the only sons for this couple?

Any ideas, including about this place name, would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards!

Debbie
