Dear Friends of Ballinasloe Parish: I have been trying to find my great great Grandfather, Maurice Kane born around 1800 who married Mary Catherine Mullen around 1838. They had a son, Patrick, around 1840 and immigrated to Quebec, Canada before 1850. Much of my research to date points to Maurice's birth place as Galway but I have not found any documents to support this research. If anyone recognizes the names or can provide advice on where to search next, I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

I have forwarded your request to a volunteer who may be able to offer some advice.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

  • Dear Genealogy Support: Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed response. I have checked out all the links you provided and have not found any additional information. Maurice & Mary Catherine left Ireland with Patrick during the potatoe famine in the mid 1850s. They settled in Bristol, Quebec Canada. I do not know their port of entry. I did find their tombstone at St Brigit's Church in Bristol but the Church does not have any records indicating their birth place other than Ireland. I did find a number of Maurice Kane's via Griffith's Valuation link a while back which led me to the Message Board at Ireland Reaching Out and thus my messages on each of the Parish websites.

I greatly appreciate your help. Anything additional you can provide is greatly appreciated.

    Regards
